Teddy bears emotional support

By BigTed Teddies August 17, 2021

Someone wants to buy soft toys and give them away, and someone considers them useless. At the same time, most young children are very fond of soft toy animals and are happy to play with them. It is proved that a soft toy contributes to the psychological relief of the child. Many children turn it into their “friend” – they “feed” a bear or a hare, put it to sleep next to them, copying the behaviour of adults, scold for “pranks” and encourage “sweets”.

When a child strokes a toy or communicates with it, it helps the baby to relieve stress with its softness and fluffiness. Very often, a favourite soft toy accompanies a child on a walk, to a kindergarten, to a new place. And in this case, it also plays a psychological role – it calms, reminding about home and close people.

From the very birth, a child learns this world through relationships with his parents and play. Therefore, it is extremely important that the baby does not need anything and develops in all directions. This will contribute to the comprehensive development and gradual formation of a more stable personality. However, one of the important aspects for a young child is considered to be the game, because the perception of the world through the game will be perceived more well and strengthened more strongly. To do this, you need different types of toys (including educational ones). But what could be better than to dive into the arms of your soft friend? That’s right, just Mom’s hugs.

According to recent research by scientists from the Colombo Institute of Research and Psychology, soft toys have a positive effect on the mental health of the baby. They assure that every kid should have an emotional support stuffed animal. With her, he can just relax and relax, or play as with a living friend. The report on stuffed animal psychology also says that touching stuffed animals helps to relieve stress and is also a therapy for restless children.

Studies show that if a child has few toys or has been played with and paid little attention to him, he later becomes slow and nervous. As some child psychologists assure, teddy bears help with anxiety. However, it is not necessary to overdo it with toys, as this affects the distraction of attention in the future. Depriving a child of soft friends can develop existential angs from an early age, which will lead to closeness, apathy or even aggression towards others.

At the same time, there is a decrease in the risks of mental disorders by 48% in children under 3 years old, who often slept with their soft bears than their peers without such a habit. These are some of the main reasons of having a teddy for your baby.

Teddy bear and quarantine

In our time, the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is raging. Every day there is more and more new information about the risk groups, the course, and the treatment of a new coronavirus infection. There is new information about the course of this infection in children.

So, as a result of a large-scale study conducted in South Korea, it was found that children under the age of 10 transmit the virus to other people much less often than adults, although the risk is not zero. But it seemed that older children and teenagers aged 10 to 19 years are just as contagious as adults.

Therefore, during hospitalization or just quarantine, the child should be given due attention. These are games with him, and new toys. A good option would be a new friend in the child’s collection – plush teddy. He will be able to help with depression when the child does not see his best friends and classmates.

If the child is ill or has had a dangerous disease, he will be glad to see a positive teddy bear sign near his bed, which wishes him a good mood and in addition brought some goodies. And imagine how happy your child will be when he returns home, when he sees a giant teddy bear waiting for him in his room on the threshold.

Socialization of the child

The range of high-quality soft toys for today is simply huge – they differ in colours, sizes, types. It is necessary to choose a soft toy in accordance with the character of the baby and his gender. For example, it is better for girls to choose toys of light pastel shades, for boys – darker in colour, but with the possibility of putting them in toy cars. At the same time, the bear will become a reliable defender of children’s dreams and will protect them from fear nightmares.

Soft bears can become a real friend for a child, especially if he is with him from birth. After all, using the example of playing with a toy, the child will learn about the world and various generally accepted concepts such as friendship, feelings, communication. During the interaction with the bear under the supervision of parents, the child will understand the basic principles of the structure of society and its moral rules. By the way, Studies on friendship reveal that sixth-grade students who did not have a friend: engaged in less prosocial behavior. Therefore, in order to avoid the above, it is worth taking care of the socialization of the child in all ways.

Regarding the size, you should opt for those models that the child could grasp and independently carry from place to place. Giant cuddlings teddy bear are considered more interior than gaming, and they are given most often to teenage girls and young girls.

Teddy bear therapy

If your life is not going the way you would like, then I would like to offer therapy with a teddy bear that will help you create life stories that bring more satisfaction and reward.

For the first time, G. Hook-Helmut began to use the game in the psychoanalysis of children, becoming a pioneer in this field. According to historians of psychoanalysis, the studies of G. Hook-Helmut largely anticipated the development of the views of A. Freud and M. Klein, but were undeservedly forgotten. In her works, G. Hook-Helmut emphasized the role of play in the life of a child, considering play as one of the methods of psychoanalysis, but never talking about “game therapy”.

Teddy bear therapy originated from psychoanalytic play therapy and Gardner’s mutual storytelling technique. This entails the therapist and the child telling a story about a teddy bear who is facing difficulties similar to those of a child. Relying on play and fantasy, the therapist engages the child in the world without posing a threat, while simultaneously maintaining a human-oriented environment. Together, the therapist and the child explore how changes in the teddy bear effect and its relationships in the family or in the broader system ultimately lead to the resolution of the teddy bear problem. Thus, the change is understood at the relationship level or at the system level.

In the future, the ideas of using the game in child psychoanalysis were developed in the works of M. Klein and A. Freud. They both used the game when working with children, but at the same time, both their understanding of the content of the game and the technique of working with the game were different. They also noted that children with high levels of dissociation can be influenced by their favourite toy friend and thanks to him and playing with him or communicating with him, they become more adapted to their environment. Thanks to the emotional support of the toy, which they trust and their own parents, the children became more open and took steps outside the box.

There is also a positive influence of a soft toy on kids with ADHD and autism. While playing with a pleasant soft toy, the child receives a certain amount of dopamine, which stimulates him in further endeavours and new contacts with people. Thanks to this form of sensory stimulation and self-learning of the child by modelling situations or typical dialogues, some children were able to overcome their inner shyness or their fears of communicating with other children.

After the Vietnam War, a new psychological disease appeared – posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which remained in tens of thousands of veterans. Later, scientists noted that this disorder can also manifest itself in mentally weak children.

At its core, posttraumatic stress disorder in children is nothing more than a delayed reaction to trauma, which develops after the end of the cause of this injury.

PTSD affects children and adolescents who have experienced or witnessed a disaster, catastrophe, violence, as well as those who have suffered serious illnesses associated with undergoing a large volume of medical interventions. One of the most common and severe traumatic events for children in most cases are episodes of domestic violence.

PTSD victims also need a friend who can listen to their secrets and experiences. Any toy that is pleasant to the touch can become such a friend. However, initially, parents should show how they can behave with her and correct incorrect behaviour. Because sometimes there are cases when a child takes out his feelings and fears during the game in aggressive games, which does not have a good effect on his future experience of interacting with society.
